Barrington Hall / Fox Run in trouble
Here are a couple industry items and a link to the article in the Macon Telegraph.
- Too many golf courses. Houston County has seven. Two of which are publicly funded. (RAFB and City Course). Developers build courses to sell lots and leave the profit problems up to course owners and club pros like me.
- Economy Stupid. Golf is expendable. Groceries and rent aren't.
- Bad Management. I have seen it first hand. Everyone thinks they know how to run a golf course. Not true.
- Younger generation men must help out at home. Women are working. My wife played at UGA. She can't play now. Too many kids. Less time.
- Golf is not for everybody. Let's face it it's tough. It aint checkers. It takes time, persistence, and dedication. It doen't fit our quick reward society.
- It is expensive. Not so much in Middle Ga. but in general.
Someone will come in and buy Barrington Hall/Fox Run Golf course if CB&T ends up taking it over. It won't go to pasture. The bank will take a hit on the principal and someone will come in and buy it for $700,000 dollars.
